The Law of Armed Conflict,                    Conflict Prevention, and Resolutions.

"Jus in Bello" (International humanitarian law -IHL) is the law that governs the way in  which warfare is conducted or the Rules of Engagement. IHL is purely humanitarian, and aims at limiting the suffering caused by Engaging in warfare situations.

"Jus ad Bellum  (law on the use of force) and "Jus Contra Bellum" (law on the prevention of war)  both aim at limiting the reasons for Engaging into the use of force or warfare between states. Under the UN Charter, states must refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of another state (Art. 2, para. 4). Exceptions to this principle are actions taken with regard to self-defence or following a decision adopted by the UN Security Council under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
